Coahuila Mexico is accountable for more than a third of Mexico’s steel production. Since the passing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994, the state’s automobile industry has expanded. Thanks to this brisk growth, the state has become a major auto-manufacturing center similar to the U.S. city of Detroit in the early 50´s.

Today, over 200 assembly plants including General Motors, Freightliner Trucks, Daimler and Americas Favorite Ram Trucks are all dedicated to metal stamping, engine production and vehicle assembly in the state.

Coahuila Mexico’s main crops are cotton, then potatoes, grapes, watermelon, apples, alfalfa, wheat, oats, corn, sorghum, nuts and dairy products, most of which end up in Americans shopping trolleys. Coahuila is also home to Mexico’s sole coal mining center.

Because of the wine production in the area, the city of Parras de la Fuente is a popular tourist destination for wine lovers from all over the world.

The city holds a much celebrated and critically acclaimed annual wine and grape fair called la Feria de la Uva y el Vino.
